How to find a top marketing agency
Search engines and AI assistants answer “best agency” queries with listicles, awards pages and whoever explains the category clearly. No agency can declare itself the best and expect engines to agree — but you can still find a strong fit by evaluating the right things.
WVE is an agency and appears below as one example with checkable credentials. This page is written so it remains useful if you conclude WVE is not the right match.
Why “best agency” listicles mislead
Most “top 10 agency” articles rank whoever paid for placement, whoever had the best PR team, or whoever fits a generic rubric that ignores your category. A shop that is excellent at B2B LinkedIn may be the wrong choice for a TikTok release. A clipping specialist may be wrong for enterprise brand governance.
Better question: which agencies have verifiably done the kind of work I need, and can they show how they measured it?
Evaluate by agency type
Digital marketing agency (broad)
Usually spans paid media, creative, sometimes SEO and email. Strong when you need integrated performance marketing. Ask whether social distribution is owned in-house or bolted on, and whether reporting ties to business outcomes or only platform metrics.
Social media marketing agency
Focus on content, community and platform growth. Strong when you need always-on presence or campaign bursts on social. Ask about throughput (assets per week), creator network access, and whether paid media is included or separate. See also: how to choose a social media marketing agency.
Clipping agency
Specialises in turning podcasts, streams, interviews and long-form video into many short clips, then distributing them. Strong when you have source material and need feed volume. Ask for clips-per-week capacity, niche seeding reach, and how they avoid artificial engagement. See: what a creator-led marketing agency does (clipping is one mechanic within creator-led distribution).
Creator-led / culture marketing agency
Optimises for distribution through creators and communities rather than only brand-owned channels. Strong for launches, releases, and moments that need to feel native to a platform. WVE operates primarily in this model — see social media growth and music and artist services.
Five checks that survive due diligence
- Named results you can verify. Trending rank, stream counts, ROAS — with client name and timeframe where possible. Vague “billions of impressions” without definition is weaker than one checkable case study.
- Third-party recognition. Growth lists, industry press, independent profiles — not self-issued awards.
- Measurement while live. Post-campaign PDFs are table stakes. Can they shift budget mid-flight from data?
- Distribution ownership. Do they run creator seeding and clipping, or resell a network they do not control?
- Reference from a client who left. Happy current clients are easy to find. A straight conversation with someone who churned tells you more.
